Sermon Notes for June 30, 2024
The Work of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit Glorifies Jesus. - Exalts, Lift - magnifies
“He shall glorify me” (John 16:14).
To believers: It is this revelation of Jesus that causes the believer to praise Jesus now and one day in heaven: One day we will stand and glorify Jesus around His throne “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing” (Revelation 5:12).
Just as Jesus had come to reveal and so glorify the Father, so the Holy Spirit has come to reveal and glorify the Son:
Spirit’s glorification of Jesus is past, present, and future:
The Holy Spirit glorified Christ in His earthly life.
The Holy Spirit was with Jesus as His companion and Helper at every step of Jesus' journey.
From birth, baptism all the way through death and resurrection,
the Spirit worked with, in, and through Him.
He was with Him in the glorious successes (miracles),
and He was with Him during the most trying times.
He anointed Him, strengthened Him, encouraged Him, led Him, and empowered Him.
And this is exactly what Jesus intended the spirit to do for us.
The Holy Spirit glorified Christ on the day of Pentecost. His Presence is evidence of the glorification of Jesus John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Present He is at work glorifying Jesus today
The Holy Spirit wants to glorify Christ through you.
Jesus’ words about the Holy Spirit’s ministry to believers are…
He will: “teach”(John 14:26),
The Spirit’s teaching would be anchored in the things Jesus had already taught them.
The revelation of the Spirit and the Word of God are never contrary one to the other.
God’s Word is the frame of reference for the Spirit’s teaching.
He will: “guide”(John 16:13),
“He will guide you into all truth” - The Holy Spirit bears witness to the truth regarding Jesus Christ. It is important to note the Spirit’s relationship to truth. People today are seeking religious experience without truth, but the Holy Spirit guides no one into experience apart from a foundation of revealed truth. Jesus said true worship is in spirit and in truth (John 4:23).
He will: “show” (John 16:13,15), (1 Corinthians 12:3). “It is only through the testimony of the Holy Spirit that men ever come to a true knowledge of Christ.
He will produce fruit in us.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”—Galatians 5:22-23
The fruit of the spirit is the result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives.
He provides spiritual gifts.
“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all… But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”—1 Corinthians 12:4-7 & 11
Part of the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives is giving each believer spiritual gifts. Your spiritual gift often aligns with the talents and passions God has given you. Knowing which gifts you have is important so you can use them to bring God glory in a specific area of ministry. Although the Spirit distributes the gifts individually, He desires that all of the gifts will work together to glorify Christ.
When we receive Christ, the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within us for eternal life and life today.
But when we want to live a rewarding Christian Life we ask the Holy Spirit to be active in our lives. Baptizing us filling us with Power.
The Holy Spirit, Jesus overflows the Holy Spirit and His power out of our lives to other people.
The ministry of Jesus, overflowing out of our lives to other people through The person of the Holy Spirit
This is a full life a rewarding life and of freedom in walking with the Holy Spirit.
