Sermon Notes for June 23, 2024
One God (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6).
God eternally exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:21–22; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Each Person of the Trinity is coequal and coeternal— (John 1:1–2).
GOD THE FATHER
God the Father is Spirit (John 4:24)
He is the source for all - Romans 11:36
A Father who deeply loves His children (John 16:27);
We should pray to Him (Matthew 6:6)
We should come to Him through Jesus (John 14:6)
We should seek His will (John 6:38).
GOD THE SON - JESUS
Is eternally begotten Son of God the Father (John 3:16).
Is is fully God and has eternally existed as such (John 1:1–2).
Submits Himself to God the Father (John 6:57; 10:30; 1 Corinthians 15:28; John 6:38),
Is the full and complete image of God—the firstborn over all creation (Colossians 1:15).
Experienced humanity in all of its temptations, trials, weaknesses, and emotions (Philippians 2:5–11; Hebrews 2:17).
Died on a cross to pay for the sins of the world (Mark 15:37; 1 John 2:2).
Rose from the dead by the power of God the Spirit (Luke 24:6; Romans 8:11),
Ascended to heaven (Luke 24:51).
Through His life, death, and resurrection, reconciled God’s people to Himself (Matthew 5:17; Titus 2:14; Romans 5:10).
Sits at the right hand of God the Father (Acts 7:55).
Is exalted above all things and intercedes before God the Father on behalf of His people (Philippians 2:9–11; Romans 8:34).
Will visibly return to earth, to vanquish the enemies of God, and establish the kingdom of heaven where He will rule with His saints for all eternity (Acts 1:11; Revelation 20—22).
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
Is fully God and has eternally existed (Genesis 1:1–2; Hebrews 9:14).
Possesses all the divine attributes, (1 Corinthians 2:10–11, Luke 1:35, Psalm 139:7–10).
A person —with distinctive traits and character, including the ability to encourage (Acts 9:31), comfort (John 14:26), and be lied to (Acts 5:3).
Was instrumental in creating the heavens, the earth, and humanity (Genesis 1—2).
Guides believers as they await the return of God the Son (John 16:13).
Permanently indwells believers to empower them for service to God (1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 2:22).
He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8).
Ensure the Word of God was established as trustworthy and true (2 Peter 1:20–21; cf. 1 Corinthians 2:12–13; 2 Timothy 3:16–17).
Intercedes for believers before God (Romans 8:27).
He reminds them of everything that God the Son taught and baptizes them into His body (John 14:16–26; 1 Corinthians 12:13–14).
Sanctifies believers to conform them to the image of Christ (Romans 8:5–17, 29).
Guides and directs believers in their affairs (Acts 10:19–20),
Gives abilities for service in the church (Romans 12:6–8; 1 Corinthians 12:4–11),
Helps us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26–27),
unify’s believers (1 Corinthians 12:13),
Gives divine wisdom (Proverbs 2).
Washes believers, makes us sanctified, and justified in the name of God the Son (1 Corinthians 6:11).
The #1 Factor for living a rewarding Christian Life is your willingness to the working, Leading and the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.
The Holy Spirit is a person
John 14:16-17
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.
He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.
The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him.
But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
He is Personal: An advocate, comforter, counsellor, helper
Holy Spirit dwells inside you, YOU NOT ALONE!
Romans 8:11
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.
And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
John 14:26
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit
—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
