Giving

Giving Option #1

Tithing is an indication of spiritual maturity. If you don’t believe in giving a tenth (tithe), because we’re in an “area of grace”, then give according to grace. If you understand grace, you’ll quickly realize all you have is from God, and you just might find yourself back to giving a tenth. Don’t believe in giving? You don’t know God, because He gave, and if you know God, you’ll give. God loves a cheerful giver.

Give your tithe or offering via e-transfer. No need to set up a password to transfer, the system is set up to receive automatically. As part of your e-transfer, you must send your personal address in the “notes” of the transfer order to be tracked for tax receipting purposes.

Giving Option #2

Canada Helps is a registered charity that is directly linked to the Canada Revenue Service. Canada Helps will directly deposit your funds to our church account. Giving in this way you will receive your tax receipt directly from them not from our church. You file your taxes as normal, but the CRA will already have your giving on file from Canada Helps. You can set up monthly auto-with-drawl or do one time giving as often as you like. You can also send a message through the system to designate as such Canada Helps does take a 3.5% administration fee. Much like it costs to write a check or set up automatic with-drawls. Your receipt will reflect this.

Why should I tithe?

If you are giving to a church chances are you are a believer in Jesus Christ and are trusting the Word of God to be truth and you are looking for the Bible to govern you.

If so, may He guide you in all truth.I’d like to take a moment and address the debates and arguments within the church as to what is the proper way to view giving in our world today. A few Scriptures on giving. (there are MANY more) OT: Malachi 3:10, Ecclesiastes 5:10, Psalm 37:16-17, Proverbs 13:11, Proverbs 10:4, Proverbs 17:16 NT: Matthew 12:41-44, Romans 13:8, Hebrews 13:5, Luke 12:33, Matthew 6:1-4, 21,24, Matthew19:21,1Timothy 6:10-19, Revelation 3:17Old Testament/ New Testament

Argument #1. “If I am no longer bound by the Old Testament Law but am now under grace, what compulsion am I under to give?”

Giving a tenth is in the Scriptures WAY before the law. Abraham gave a tenth of all he had to the mysterious Priest, Melchizedek King of Salem. Mentioned in Genesis 14:18. In verse 20b Abram “gave a tenth of everything” This mysterious “King of Salem” is also mentioned in Psalm 110:4, and numerous times throughout the book of Hebrews. His appearances thought out the Old Testament are seen as glimpses of the Christ and and the title “Melchizedek King of Salem” a title given to Jesus Messiah, the Christ. The simple point is that a “Tithe” (giving a tenth) predates the law.

Apart from Leviticus and the OT law many pastors and teachers look to OT Scripture Malachi 3 and specifically looking at verse 6. The idea that because this is OT, it is irrelevant is not sound thinking. Jesus came to fulfill the law, this does not release us from it, in fact His fulfillment actually empowers us not JUST to obey the law but to LOVE IT with a heart and desire to fulfill it ourselves. Now, giving of a “tithe” (with means a tenth) is not spelled out as part of the law in the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) however it is all throughout the Levitical Law which stood prior to Exodus.

Back to the second part of the question, coming to the “Spirit of the Law”; specifically meaning GRACE. How do we look at giving under GRACE? The understanding of grace shatters the ungodly and worldly mindset of entitlement. Grace is “not getting what you deserve”, simply meaning what we do not “deserve” anything. Everything we have is a gift from God as everything belongs to Him, from salvation, to family, to finances and indeed life itself. Entitlement is crushed under grace. Financially, if we see our abilities are a gift from God, our occupations & our jobs are by His grace, then our finances are just an extension of His grace. The woman that came and poured out an alabaster flask on Jesus’ head worth a year of wages according to Mark 14:3 and according to Luke 7:47 Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” We see grace in action here. With a heart full of thanks giving ought we to give to God and spare no expense? All of a sudden the law looks a little easier than grace. Under the law you are limited to a tenth, where as grace is unlimited, freely you have received and 10% should be the least of our benevolence!
