Life Today in Light of Forever

Have you ever noticed how fast time flies as we get older? We spend our days paying bills, answering emails, and looking for lost keys. It is easy to get so wrapped up in the daily grind that we forget what actually matters.

In 1 Corinthians 15:58, Paul writes, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

Paul gives us a powerful truth to live by: Live today in light of forever.

Eternity isn’t just something that starts when we die; for a believer, it begins right now. When we view our daily routines through the lens of eternity, three things happen:

1. It Changes What We Value

The resurrection reminds us this world isn't all there is. Famous missionary C.T. Studd once wrote, "Only one life, ’twill soon be past; Only what’s done for Jesus will last." When we realize eternity is real, we stop obsessing over temporary things and start investing in what lasts—loving people, serving others, and sharing Christ.

2. It Changes What We Stand For

Life brings unexpected storms, disappointments, and pressures. But when you know your eternal destination, you can stand firm where you are. Your circumstances may change, but your foundation in Christ remains unshakable.

3. It Changes How We Live and Pray

Serving God often looks incredibly ordinary: teaching a child, forgiving a friend, or praying faithfully year after year.

Never underestimate the power of quiet, persistent prayer. You might pray for a loved one for years without seeing immediate fruit, but no prayer offered in faith is ever wasted. God hears every word. Like a seed planted deep in the soil, spiritual work is happening beneath the surface long before you see the harvest.

Keep going. Keep praying. Live today knowing that nothing you do for Christ is ever in vain.
